Quiz time (73): What was the name of the Masjid, The Prophet (pbuh) ordered this masjid to be destroyed in Ramadan?

Quiz time (73):  What was the name of the Masjid, The Prophet (pbuh) ordered this masjid to be destroyed in Ramadan?

Ans: Masjid al-Dirar.

In the first year after the Hijrah, the Prophet (pbuh) sent Hamza ibn Abdul Mattalib with thirty Muslim riders to Saif al Bahr to investigate three hundred riders from Quraish who had camped suspiciously in that area. The Muslims were about to engage the disbelievers, but they were separated by Majdy ibn Umar al-Juhany. The Hypocrites of Al-Madinah, hoping to oppose the unity of the Muslims, built their own masjid (called Masjid al-Dirar). The Prophet (pbuh) ordered this masjid to be destroyed in Ramadan.

Amir realized that the Messenger's call was still rising and gaining momentum, so he went to Heraclius, the emperor of Rome, asking for his aid against the Prophet . Heraclius gave him promises and Abu `Amir remained with him. He also wrote to several of his people in Al-Madinah, who embraced hypocrisy, promising and insinuating to them that he will lead an army to fight the Messenger of Allah to defeat him and his call. He ordered them to establish a stronghold where he could send his emissaries and to serve as an outpost when he joins them later on.

These hypocrites built a Masjid next to the Masjid in Quba', and they finished building it before the Messenger went to Tabuk. They went to the Messenger inviting him to pray in their Masjid so that it would be a proof that the Messenger approved of their Masjid. They told him that they built the Masjid for the weak and ill persons on rainy nights. However, Allah prevented His Messenger from praying in that Masjid. He said to them,  “(If we come back from our travel, Allah willing.)''

When the Messenger of Allah came back from Tabuk and was approximately one or two days away from Al-Madinah, Jibril came down to him with the news about Masjid Ad-Dirar and the disbelief and division between the believers, who were in Masjid Quba' (which was built on piety from the first day), that Masjid Ad-Dirar was meant to achieve. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah sent some people to Masjid Ad-Dirar to bring it down before he reached Al-Madinah. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said about this Ayah (9:107), "They are some people of the Ansar to whom Abu `Amir said, `Build a Masjid and prepare whatever you can of power and weapons, for I am headed towards Caesar, emperor of Rome, to bring Roman soldiers with whom I will expel Muhammad and his companions.' When they built their Masjid, they went to the Prophet and said to him, "We finished building our Masjid and we would like you pray in it and invoke Allah for us for His blessings. ‘Allah revealed this verse,

“There are also those ˹hypocrites˺ who set up a mosque ˹only˺ to cause harm, promote disbelief, divide the believers, and as a base for those who had previously fought against Allah and His Messenger.1 They will definitely swear, “We intended nothing but good,” but Allah bears witness that they are surely liars.

Do not ˹O Prophet˺ ever pray in it. Certainly, a mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy of your prayers. In it are men who love to be purified. And Allah loves those who purify themselves.”

[Al-Qur’an ch 9 Verse 107-108]

QuizTime(72): What was the name of the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh)'s camels?

QuizTime(72): What was the name of the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh)'s camels?

Ans: 1) al-Qaswaa, 2) al-‘Adbaa’ & 3) al-Jad’aa’.

Al-Waqidi related, with full chains of authorities, that the Messenger of God (SAAS) took the camel called al-Qaswaa’'. He also said, "Abu Bakr had bought both camels for 800 dirhams." Ibn 'Asakir related through Abu Usma, from Hisham, from his father from 'A'isha, who said, "(The camel he chose was) al-Jad'aa'." Al-Suhayli related this similarly from Ibn Ishnq, that it was al-Jad'aa'. But God knows best.

[For more details see images]

Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in his section on the animals owned by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): Of camels he had al-Qaswaa’, and it was said that she was the camel on which he made his Hijrah; and al-‘Adbaa’ and al-Jad’aa’.

Source: Al-Sira al-Nabawiyya Vol 1 & Vol 2. By Ibn Kathir.

Were al-‘Adbaa’ and al-Jad’aa’ one and the same, or two different camels?

There is some difference of opinion concerning this. Al-‘Adbaa’ was the camel who had never been defeated in a race, then a Bedouin came on a young camel, which beat her in a race. This upset the Muslims, but the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When Allaah raises the status of something in this world, He inevitably brings it down again.” At the battle of Badr, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) took as booty a dromedary which had belonged to Abu Jahl and had a silver ring in its nose. He took it to be sacrificed on the day of al-Hudaybiyah in order to annoy the mushrikeen.

QuizTime(71) Who was that nurse Sahabiya had tent close to Prophet Masjid used to treat sick people ?

QuizTime(71)  Who was that nurse Sahabiya had tent close to Prophet Masjid used to  treat sick people ?

Ans:   Rufaydah Al-Aslamiyyah(r.a)

Rufayda Al-Aslamiyyah is a woman from the tribe of Aslam in Madeenah; it is for this reason that she was called Al-Aslamiyyah. She was a woman from the women of Ansaar, and she had a tent by the Prophet’s mosque (in Madeenah) where she used to treat the sick as reported by Al-Bukhari in “Al-Adab Al-Mufrad”, in a Hadeeth which was classified by Al-Albaani as Saheeh [sound].

When Sa’d Ibn Mu’aath (r.a) was injured in the battle of Al-Khandaq (The Trench), the Prophet (pbuh) ordered that he be placed and treated in her tent.

However, we have not come across any evidence that suggests that she used to go out in some battles to treat the injured. However, this matter is confirmed about other female Companions (R.a) among whom was Umm ‘Atiyyah, Umm Sulaym, Hamnah Bint Jahsh, Layla Al-Ghifaariyyah (the wife of Abu Tharr), Umm Ayman, and Rubayyi’ Bint Mu’awwith, may Allaah be pleased with all of them.

Moreover, Anas Ibn Maalik (r.a) said: “The Prophet (pbuh) used to go out to the battles taking Umm Sulaym and some other women of the Ansaar with him; when he fights in the battle, they [i.e. the women] would give water to the soldiers and treat the injured.” [Muslim]

Besides, when An-Nawawi (r.h) commented on this Hadeeth, clarifying some of its benefits, he said: “This is evidence that women used to go out in battles and the men benefit from them as they give water to the soldiers and treat the injured and the like, but this treatment was for their Mahrams and their husbands, and if they were to treat other than their Mahrams and their husbands, they would not touch the body of the person except at the place of necessity [i.e. the place of injury].”

Quiz time (70 ): Which Sahabi as a first commander to violate the month of Rajab by attacking enemies & a Verse revealed later?

Quiz time (70 ): Which Sahabi as a first commander to violate the month of Rajab by attacking enemies & a Verse revealed later?

Ans: Abdullaah ibn Jahsh Al-Asdi(may Allah be pleased with him)

He is nicknamed Abu Muhammad, and his mother is Umaymah bint 'Abd Al-Muttalib, the aunt of the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam. Thus he was the maternal cousin of the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam & his sister, Zaynab bint Jahsh, was a wife of the Prophet.

The Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, dispatched him at the head of the platoon of Nakhlah in the month of Rajab, 2 A.H.

Ibn Abu Hatim reported that Jundub bin `Abdullah said: ... Consequently, the Messenger relieved Abu `Ubaydah from command, appointed `Abdullah bin Jahsh instead, gave him some written instructions and commanded him not to read the instructions until he reached such and such area. He also said to `Abdullah: (Do not compel any of your men to continue marching with you thereafter.)

When `Abdullah read the instructions, he recited Istirja` ﴿saying, `Truly! to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return'; and refer to (2:156) and said, "I hear and obey Allah and His Messenger.'' He then told his companions the story and read the instructions to them, and two men went back while the rest remained.

Then, a caravan belonging to the Quraysh passed by carrying raisins, food stuff and some trade items for the Quraysh. `Amr bin Hadrami, whose name was `Abdullah bin `Abbad, was in the caravan, as well as `Uthman bin `Abdullah bin Al-Mughirah and his brother Nawfal bin `Abdullah from the tribe of Makhzum, and Al-Hakam bin Kaysan, a freed slave of Hisham bin Al-Mughirah.

The Companions conferred among themselves. That day was the last day in the (sacred) month of Rajab. They at first hesitated and did not like to attack them. They then began encouraging themselves and decided to kill whomever they could among the disbelievers and to confiscate whatever they had.

Hence, Waqid bin `Abdullah At-Tamimi shot an arrow at `Amr bin Al-Hadrami and killed him. `Uthman bin `Abdullah and Al-Hakam bin Kaysan gave themselves up, while Nawfal bin `Abdullah was able to outrun them in flight. Later on, `Abdullah bin Jahsh and his companions went back to Allah's Messenger in Al-Madinah with the caravan and the two prisoners.

When the Sariyah came back to Allah's Messenger, he said to them:  (I have not commanded you to conduct warfare during the Sacred Month. )

Meanwhile, the Jews were pleased about what happened to Allah's Messenger. They said, ` Amr bin Hadrami was killed by Waqid bin `Abdullah: `Amr, means the war has started, Hadrami means the war has come, as for Waqid (bin `Abdullah): the war has raged (using some of the literal meanings of these names to support their fortune-telling!).'' But, Allah made all that turn against them.

"They ask you about fighting in the sacred month. Say: Fighting therein is an enormity as well as preventing (people) from the path of God and disbelief in Him. Expelling people from the Masjid al-Haram is a greater sin in the eyes of God. Moreover, persecution is greater than killing." [Al-Qur'an 2:217]

When these blessed verses were revealed, the Prophet's mind was eased. He took the caravan and ransomed the prisoners. He became pleased with 'Abdullah ibn Jahsh and his men. Their expedition was certainly a major event in the early life of the Muslim community ...

He also undertook the two emigrations to Habashah (Ethiopia) and to Madeenah with his family where he witnessed the great Battle of Badr. He was martyred during the Battle of Uhud, as he asked Allah The Almighty to give him martyrdom and He granted him his wish.

QuizTime(69) Who was that Sahabi(Chief of the tribe), polytheists put cotton in his ear to prevent him listening from Prophet’s Quran recitation ?

QuizTime(69) Who was that Sahabi(Chief of the tribe), polytheists put cotton in his ear to prevent him listening  from Prophet’s Quran recitation  ?

Ans:  At-Tufayl ibn ‘Amr Ad-Dawsi(R.a)

The polytheists of the Quraysh gathered to consult each other on a strategy to prevent Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, from inviting people to Islam, especially as the Hajj (pilgrimage) season was nearing, and the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, would surely call people to embrace Islam during it. They agreed on warning people against listening to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Among the pilgrims was At-Tufayl ibn ‘Amr Ad-Dawsi, the chief of the tribe of Daws. The polytheists warned him about listening to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and claimed that he was a sorcerer and a poet, so At-Tufayl put pieces of cotton in his ears so that he would not be able to listen to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

Once, At-Tufayl went to the Ka‘bah and found the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, praying and reciting the Quran and Allah The Almighty willed that At-Tufayl listened to him. When he listened, he knew that what he had listened to was neither poetry nor magic, as At-Tufayl was a poet himself. Thus, when the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, finished his prayer, At-Tufayl followed him home and told him what the polytheists had said. Then he asked the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, to explain Islam to him. When he heard the Da‘wah (call) of Islam, he believed in Allah The Almighty, His Messenger and the Book he, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was sent with. The reversion of Tufayl was one of the blessings of the Quran. After this, he went to his tribe and invited them to Islam.

The noble Quran is the Speech of Allah The Almighty and the eternal miracle of His Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Allah The Almighty sent it down to the people of rhetoric and challenged them to compose one Soorah (Chapter) or even one verse like it, but they were unable to do so. The Quran is the firm Rope of Allah The Almighty, and whoever adheres to it will be saved by it; whoever follows it will be guided to the right path.

Quiz time (68): There were Rats drink only Milk of a sheep but not Milk of a She-camel. Who were these people?

Hint:  They were Humans before becoming rats.

Ans:  Israelites.

Its a Mansook Hadith(abrogated)

The Prophet (ï·º) said, "A group of Israelites were lost. Nobody knows what they did. But I do not see them except that they were cursed and changed into rats, for if you put the milk of a she-camel in front of a rat, it will not drink it, but if the milk of a sheep is put in front of it, it will drink it." I told this to Ka`b who asked me, "Did you hear it from the Prophet (ï·º) ?" I said, "Yes." Ka`b asked me the same question several times.; I said to Ka`b. "Do I read the Torah? (i.e. I tell you this from the Prophet.)"

Quiz time(67): Who was that Sahabhi, when Muhammed(pbuh) frown & turn away from him, then Allah revealed 12 verses for him ?

Quiz time(67): Who was that Sahabhi, when Muhammed(pbuh) frown & turn away from him, then Allah revealed 12 verses for him ?

Ans: Abdullaah Ibn Umm Maktoom (may Allah be pleased with him).

The Prophet (pbuh) was concentrating on the Quraysh notables and was eager for them to become Muslims. On one particular day, he met 'Utbah Ibn Rabee'ah and his brother Shaybah, 'Amr Ibn Hishaam, better known as Abu Jahl, Umayyah Ibn Khalaf and Waleed Ibn Mugheerah, the father of Khaalid Ibn Al-Waleed, may Allah be pleased with him, who was later to be known as Sayfullaah or 'the Sword of Allah'.

He (pbuh)  had begun talking and negotiating with them and telling them about Islam. He (pbuh)  wished that they would respond positively to him and accept Islam or at least call off their persecution of his Companions.

While the Prophet (pbuh)  was thus engaged, 'Abdullaah Ibn Umm Maktoom, may Allah be pleased with him, came up and asked him to read a verse from the Quran. "O Messenger of Allah," he said, "teach me from what Allah has taught you."

The Prophet (pbuh)  frowned and turned away from him. He (pbuh)  turned his attention instead to the prestigious group of Quraysh, hoping that they would become Muslims and that by their acceptance of Islam they would bring greatness to the religion of Allah and strengthen his mission.

As soon as he (pbuh)  had finished speaking to them and had left their company, he suddenly felt partially blinded and his head began to throb violently. At this point the following revelation came to him (what means): "He (i.e., the Prophet (pbuh) ) frowned and turned away because there came to him the blind man, (interrupting). But what would make you perceive, (O Muhammad), that perhaps he might be purified, or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? As for he who thinks himself without need, to him you give attention. And not upon you (is any blame) if he will not be purified. But as for he who came to you striving (for knowledge) while he fears Allah, from him you are distracted. No! Indeed, they (i.e., theses verses) are a reminder; so whoever wills may remember it". [Quran 80: 1-12].

These are the verses which were revealed to the noble Prophet (pbuh)  about 'Abdullaah Ibn Umm Maktoom, may Allah be pleased with him. These verses have continued to be recited from that time till today and shall continue to be recited by all who read the Quran.
