HADITH NUMBER CODING:
There are many types
of Hadith reference number are being available and many people having confusion
regarding reference number, as they required to give or produce as evidence
while discussing or talking about the Islam.
As Allah says in the Qur’an ch 2 Verse
111 & Ch 27 Verse 64. “Produce a proof if you are truthful”
Note: The difference of
one number for same hadith, in pic No 1. I have explained in the last note pic 9.
Let Me start with giving a an example: Abu Dawood Hadith 744(online Number)

FIRSTLY THE NUMBERS:
The Reference number
or Coding Number or Number of Volume of Hadiths books English is different from
Urdu and Arabic,Scholars Has differentiated for the better convenient for the
Mass And there are many different coding available in English Hadith books as
well.
SECONDLY:
LETS TRY AND UNDERSTAND ABOVE HADITH REFERENCES.
Abu Dawood book 744
This is a simple as
Hadith Number arranged in ascending order
Means if you open the Abu Dawood Book if
you start counting the Hadith from the First Hadith…… Second Hadith…. And so
on.

in Pic 1, you will find numbered on 744.
I believe its Much clear now. Lets Move to the other coding.
THIRDLY: THE BOOKS
SUNNAH ABU DAWOOD VOL 1 BOOK 2 HADITH 744.
It’s the same Hadith but Book number
and Vol Number is Added. The Below pic from English Abu Dawud Vol 1
and Book Number 2 as you can see, Its vol one Index section.

As you can see that Scholars Has segregated the Hadith under relevant topic known as Books for i.e
Books of Salat(The prayers) the most of the Hadith related to the Salat gather
under this topic of “Book of Salat)

As you can see that Same Hadith 744 Reported
under the Heading “Book of Salat/ Kitab Al-Salat)” on the top, Heading will
appears till the end of the Book 2.
FOURTHLY : THE CHAPTERS
Sunna Abu Dawood Vol 1, Book 2 Ch 115/116 Hadith 774.
Now it’s the same
Hadith and Hadith number is Same 744 in ascending order but First Vol added then book Added and now Chapter number added
under Main topic(book of Salat). Means Hadith further Segregated into more relevant sub divided Subject knows as Chapter.
FIFTHLY :
SUNNA ABU DAWUD VOL 1 CH 2 HADITH 1
If you analysis here
Hadith number is coded ascending order from the chapter wise.
Note: The Hadith Number
reflecting on the pic is asending order from the starting Hadith number.

Now the above Hadith number
in asending order from the chapter 2
will be Hadith No: 1.

Same Hadith number in asending order from the starting Hadith
will be Hadith No: 3.
3)
And Same goes with all chapter, New chapter started then New ascending order number starting from 1 will be given till the end of that
chapter.
SIXTH:
SAHI BUKHARI VOL 1 BOOK 1 HADITH 1:
Under this Method there
will is no Chapter included its another
way or simplified way by excluding the chapter number.

DEPRECIATED NUMBER CODING:
USC-MSA WEB(ENGLISH) REFERENCE VOL, BOOK,
HADITH, (DEPRECATED NUMBERING SCHEME)
Under this method two
Hadith with similar hadith narration
will be clubbed into one Hadith.
Example: There is separate Hadith 3 & 4 in Hadith text book with same line
and narration continuing, under this method Hadith number 4 will be included
into Hadith number 3 and next Hadith will be numbered as 4.

deprecated Numbering Hadith 3 Ends with
Hadith Number 4. Same Explanatioin goes
with Sunna Abu Dawud in the first pic, differers hadith number from the online
than other Books numbering, that I believe, Allah knows the best, lots of study
yet to be done only on numbering. Allah
