QuizTime(151): What was the first word of the Qur’an that was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)?

QuizTime(151): What was the first word of the Qur’an that was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)?

Ans: "Iqra"(Read, proclaim, recite).

There is a chapter named in the Qur'an Surah "Iqra" ch 96, also know as Surah Alaq.

Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) used to go to the cave of Hira' and devote himself to worship there for a number of nights, and he would bring provisions for that. Then he would return to Khadijah and replenish his provisions for a similar number of nights. This continued until the revelation suddenly came to him while he was in the cave of Hira'. The angel came to him while he was in the cave and said, "Read!'' The Messenger of Allah said.

« فَقُلْتُ: مَا أَنَا بِقَارِىء »

(I replied: "I am not one who reads.) Then he said, "So he (the angel) seized me and pressed me until I could no longer bear it. Then he released me and said: `Read!' So I replied: `I am not one who reads.' So, he pressed me a second time until I could no longer bear it. Then he released me and said:

(Read in the Name of your Lord who has created.) until he reached the Ayah,( مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ) (That which he knew not.)

So he returned with them (those Ayat) and with his heart trembling until he came (home) to Khadijah, and he said,(Wrap me up, wrap me up!) So they wrapped him up until his fear went away. After that he told Khadijah everything that had happened.

QuizTime(150) Under which Sahabi authority, a Muslim(who greeted them Salam) was killed due to misjudgment & Quran ayah revealed?

QuizTime(150) Under which Sahabi authority, a Muslim(who greeted them Salam) was killed due to misjudgment & Quran ayah revealed?

Ans: Al-Miqdad bin Al-Aswad(r.a)

Greeting with the Salam is a Sign of Islam.

Muhammad ibn Jareer al-Tabari and others narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that this verse – “and say not to anyone who greets you (by embracing Islam): ‘You are not a believer’” [al-Nisa’ 4:94] – was revealed concerning Mardaas, a man from Ghatafaan. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sent an army to his people, whose leader was Ghaalib al-Laythi, and his companions fled but he did not flee, and he said, I am a believer.  The cavalry came to him and he greeted them with salaam, but they killed him and took his sheep.[End]

“Imam Ahmad recorded that 'Ikrimah said that Ibn 'Abbas said, "A man from Bani Sulaym, who was tending a flock of sheep, passed by some of the Companions of the Prophet and said Salam to them. They said (to each other), 'He only said Salam to protect himself from us.' Then they attacked him and killed him. They brought his sheep to the Prophet , and this Ayah was revealed,

“O ye who believe! When ye go abroad in the cause of Allah, investigate carefully, and say not to any one who offers you a salutation: "Thou art none of a believer!" Coveting the perishable goods of this life: with Allah are profits and spoils abundant. Even thus were ye yourselves before, till Allah conferred on you His favours: Therefore carefully investigate. For Allah is well aware of all that ye do.” [Al-Qur’an ch 4 Verse 94]

At-Tirmidhi recorded this in his (chapter on) Tafsir, and said, "This Hadith is Hasan.

"A man was tending his sheep and the Muslims caught up with him. He said, 'As-Salamu 'Alaykum.' However, they killed him and took his sheep. Allah revealed the Ayah.

Al-Bukhari recorded this shorter version without a complete chain of narrators. However a longer version with a connected chain of narrators has also been recorded. Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Al-Bazzar recorded that Ibn 'Abbas said, "The Messenger of Allah sent a military expedition under the authority of Al-Miqdad bin Al-Aswad and when they reached the designated area, they found the people had dispersed. However, a man with a lot of wealth did not leave and said, 'I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.' Yet, Al-Miqdad killed him, and a man said to him, 'You killed a man after he proclaimed: "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. By Allah I will mention what you did to the Prophet .' When they went back to the Messenger of Allah, they said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Al-Miqdad killed a man who testified that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.' He said,

(Summon Al-Miqdad before me. O Miqdad! Did you kill a man who proclaimed, "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah?" What would you do when you face, "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah tomorrow?")

The Messenger of Allah said to Al-Miqdad,

(He was a believing man who hid his faith among disbelieving people, and he announced his faith to you, but you killed him, although you used to hide your faith before, in Makkah.)"

Don't get confused with usaaamah bin Zayd(r.a) incident. These two are different incident.

Usaamah ibn Zayd killed the man who said Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to him: “O Usaamah, did you kill him after he said Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah? O Usaamah, did you kill him after he said Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah? O Usaamah, did you kill him after he said Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah?” .

QuizTime(149) : Which Surah of the Qur’an describes the extraordinary event that happened in the year of the Elephant?

QuizTime(149) : Which Surah of the Qur’an describes the extraordinary event that happened in the year of the Elephant?

Ans: Surah Al-Fil, Ch 105.

“1. Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the Owners of the Elephant 2. Did He not make their plot go astray 3. And He sent against them birds, in flocks (Ababil). 4. Striking them with stones of Sijjil. 5. And He made them like eaten straw.”

This is one of the favors Allah did for the Quraysh. He saved them from the People of the Elephant who had tried to tear down the Ka`bah and wipe out all traces of its existence. Allah destroyed them, defeated them, thwarted their plans, made their efforts in vain and sent them back routed.

They were people who were Christians, and thus, their religion was closer to the True Religion (Islam) than the idolatry of the Quraysh. However, this was a means of giving a sign and preparing the way for the coming of the Messenger of Allah . For verily, he was born during that same year(the same year of the Elephant Event) according to the most popular opinion.

So the tongue of destiny was saying, "We will not help you, O people of Quraysh, because of any status you may have over the Ethiopians (Abyssinians). We are only helping you in order to defend the Ancient House (the Ka`bah), which We will honor, magnify, and venerate by sending the unlettered Prophet, Muhammad , the Finality of all Prophets.

Allah knows the best.

QuizTime (148): Entire Qur’an revealed on Earth except two verses. What are they?

QuizTime (148): Entire Qur’an revealed on Earth except two verses. What are they?

Ans:  Surah Baqrah Ch 2 Verse 285-286.(Last two verses of Surah Baqrah).

An-Nawawi (r.a) entitled a chapter of his commentary on “Saheeh Muslim” as: “Urging people to recite the last two verses of Al-Baqarah” and he mentioned a number of Ahadeeth, among which is the Hadeeth narrated by ‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood (r.a) that the Prophet (pbuh) was given on the night of Israa’ (Prophet’s night journey to Jerusalem and his ascension to the seventh heaven) three things: “He was given the five daily obligatory prayers, he was given the last verses of Chapter Al-Baqarah, and the one who does not associate anything with Allaah from his nation, his great sins will be forgiven.

There is a Hadeeth with the wording: “I was given these last verses of Soorat Al-Baqarah from a treasure under the Throne. None before me has been given them, and none after me will be given them.” This Hadeeth was narrated by An-Nasaa’i in As-Sunan Al-Kubra and Ibn Hibbaan in As-Saheeh. Al-Arna’oot said: “Its chain of narrators is Saheeh (sound) according to the conditions of a Saheeh Hadeeth.”

QuizTime(147): Did the Prophet Muhammed(saw) divorce any of his wives?

QuizTime(147): Did the Prophet Muhammed(saw) divorce any of his wives?

Ans: Prophet divorced Hafsah Bint ‘Umar(R.a).

Must Read completely:

"The Prophet (saw) divorced Hafsah, but he took her back in marriage." (Abu Dawud 2283)

The same narration was narrated on the authority of ibn Abbas and Umar ibn al-Khattab. (Ibn Majah 2016, Nasa'i 3560)

It was also narrated Allah ordered him to take her back in marriage. Anas (ra) narrated:

"Gabriel (as) came to me and said (Allah orders you to) take Hafah back in marriage, she keeps fasting and praying and she is your wife in Paradise." (al-Haythami, Majma' az-Zawa'id, Vol. 2, p. 248, Suyuti, al-Jami' as-Sagheer 6061 and others)

The Prophet divorced Hafsah, may Allah be pleased with her, once when she sided against him and disclosed his secret (mentioned before, in the story regarding ‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, and the Prophet ’s oath not to drink honey). But Jibreel came to him, and told him to take her back and said: “Take Hafsah back because she is keeping fasts and is observing prayer in the last parts of the night, and she is going to be your wife in Paradise.”

Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated: “For the whole year I had the desire to ask ‘Umar bin al-Khattaab, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding the explanation of a verse (in Soorah At-Tahreem), but I could not ask him because I respected him very much. When he went to perform Hajj, I too went along with him. On our return while we were still on the way home ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, went aside to answer the call of nature by the Arak trees. I waited until he had finished then I proceeded with him and asked him: ‘O Chief of the Believers, who were the two wives of the Prophet who aided one another against him?’ He said: ‘They were Hafsah and ‘Aa'ishah.' Then I said to him: 'By Allah. I wanted to ask you about this a year ago, but I could not do so owing to my respect for you.' 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: 'Do not refrain from asking me. If you think that I have knowledge (about a certain matter), ask me; and if I know (something about it), I will tell you.'

Hafsah, may Allah be pleased with her, realized the gravity of what she had done to her noble husband when she disclosed his secret. However, after the Prophet forgave her, she lived in tranquility and repose again.

2) Link : https://www.islamweb.net/en/article/134223/hafsah-bint-umar-the-prophets-wife-in-paradise-ii

Conclusion:

It is generally agreed the Prophet (saw) divorced Hafsah (ra) after the consummation of marriage and took her back in marriage again. Some argue he also divorced “Umaymah bint an-Nu‘maan ibn Sharaaheel”(r.a) before the consummation of the marriage though others say he simply ended a potential engagement.

Umaymah bint an-Nu‘maan ibn Sharaaheel(R.a),there are difference of opinion on this, check the links provided below.

QuizTime (146) At which Valley, a group of Jinns listened the recitation of Qur'an for the first time?

QuizTime (146) At which Valley, a group of Jinns listened the recitation of Qur'an for the first time?

Ans: “Wadi Nakhlah”

The Messenger of Allâh (Peace be upon him) then came back to wakefulness and his heart was set at rest in the light of that invisible divinely provided aid. He proceeded to Wadi Nakhlah where he stayed for a few days.

During his stay there, Allâh sent him a company of jinns who listened to him reciting the Noble Qur’ân: l “And (remember) when We sent towards you [Muhammad (Peace be upon him) ] Nafran (three to ten persons) of the jinns, (quietly) listening to the Qur’ân, when they stood in the presence thereof, they said: ‘Listen in silence!’ And when it was finished, they returned to their people, as warners. They said: ‘O our people! Verily! We have heard a Book (this Qur’ân) sent down after Moses, confirming what came before it, it guides to the Truth and to a Straight Path (i.e. Islam).

"O our people! Respond (with obedience) to Allâh’s Caller [i.e. Allâh’s Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him) ], and believe in him (i.e. believe in that which Muhammad (Peace be upon him) has brought from Allâh and follow him). He (Allâh) will forgive you of your sins, and will save you from a painful torment (i.e. Hell-fire).’”

[46:29-31]

The same incident is referred to in Sûrah Al-Jinn:

l “Say [O Muhammad (Peace be upon him) ]: “It has been revealed to me that a group (from three to ten in number) of jinns listened (to this Qur’ân). They said: ‘Verily! We have heard a wonderful Recital (this Qur’ân)! It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allâh).’” [72:1,2] … Till the end of the 15th verse.

From the context of these verses and their relevant interpretation, we can safely establish it that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) was not aware of the presence of that group of jinns. It was only when Allâh revealed those verses that he came to know of it. The verses also confirm that it was the first time they came. However, the context of the different versions suggests that the jinns repeated their visits later on. The presence of that company of jinns comes in the context of the Divine support given to His Messenger, and constitutes a propitious sign of ultimate victory and success for the Call of Islam. It provides an unshakable proof that no power however mighty could alter what is wrought by Allâh: l “And whosoever does not respond to Allâh’s Caller, he cannot escape on earth, and there will be no Auliyâ (protectors) from him besides Allâh (from Allâh’s punishment). Those are in manifest error.” [46:32]

“And we think that we cannot escape (from the punishment of) Allâ h in the earth, nor can we escape (from the punishment) by flight.” [72:12]

Given this support and auspicious start, depression, dismay and sadness that used to beset him since he was driven out of At-Ta’if, he turned his face towards Makkah with fresh determination to resume his earlier plan to expose people to Islam and communicate his Message in a great spirit of zeal and matchless enthusiasm.

QuizTime (144) at prophet (saw) time, during in which extreme Battle condition Sahabas wore tore leather & cloth pieces instead of shoes?

QuizTime (144) at prophet (saw) time, during in which extreme Battle condition Sahabas wore tore leather & cloth pieces instead of shoes?

Ans: The Battle of “Thaat-ur-Riqaa”/“Dhat-ur-Riqa”

Particular battle during which the Companions (may Allah please with them all) experienced the highest degree of hardship to the extent that they wore shreds of leather and pieces of cloth instead of shoes and sandals. According to Islamic history, the events of that battle took place in the sixth Hijri year.

It was called “Thaat Ar-Riqaa‘” because the Muslims would wrap their legs and feet in pieces of clothes, rags and patches (which means Riqaa‘ in Arabic). It was also said that it was named as such because the Muslims patched their flags, or because of a tree called Thaat Ar-Riqaa’, or because they camped in an area whose land had white and black patches. However, the soundest reason is the first one for it was narrated on the authority of Abu Moosa Al-Ash‘ari, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said,

“We set out in the company of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, for a battle and we were six persons having one camel, which we rode by taking turns. So, [due to excessive walking] our feet became wounded; my feet became wounded [to the extent that] my nails dropped off. We would wrap our feet with pieces of cloth, and for this reason, the battle was named Thaat Ar-Riqaa‘ as we wrapped our feet with rags.” [Al-Bukhari]

After overcoming the evil plotting of the Jews in Madeenah and after defeating the Quraysh and its allies, there was still another danger: the heartless Bedouins, who were living in the desert of Najd. These people derived their livelihood from highway robbery. On one hand, the Prophet (pbuh) wanted to put an end to that danger and to overcome this evil, while on the other hand, he (pbuh) wanted to provide the region with security and protection. Hence, when the Prophet (pbuh) heard that those people were preparing to fight him, he (pbuh)was determined to retaliate, and he(pbuh)commanded his Companions to prepare themselves for the battle. They immediately responded to his command and prepared for the fight - and they numbered either 400 or 700 fighters.

The Prophet (Pbuh) set out along with his army from Madeenah. They realized from the outset that there were many hardships awaiting them as there was a severe shortage in mounts. Every six or seven men had to take turns on a single camel. What made matters worse was the unevenness of the earth and the sharp stones that tore their shoes and their fingernails. Hence, they had to wrap their feet in shreds of cloth and leather, and this was why the battle came to be known as that of Thaat-ur-Riqaa' (Expedition of Rags). In Saheeh Al-Bukhari[4128/9] and Saheeh Muslim, a Hadeeth was narrated on the authority of Abu Moosa Al-‘Ash‘ari (pbuh) who said, “We would wrap our feet with shreds, and that is why the battle was called as such: Thaat-ur-Riqaa’.”
