QuizTime(135): In which cave did Rasulullah (SAW) receive the first revelation?

QuizTime(135): In which cave did Rasulullah (SAW) receive the first revelation?

Ans: The event took place in a cave called Hira, located on the mountain Jabal-an-Nour, near Mecca.

It is reported in al-Saheehayn from ‘Urwah ibn al-Zubayr that ‘Aa’ishah the wife of the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The beginning of the Revelation that came to the Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was good dreams; he never saw a dream but it came true like bright daylight. Then seclusion was made dear to him, and he used to go to the cave of Hiraa’ and worship there, which means that he went and devoted himself to worship for a number of nights before coming back to his family to collect more provisions, then he would go back again. Then he would go back to Khadeejah to collect more provisions. (This went on) until the truth came to him suddenly when he was in the cave of Hiraa’. The angel came and said, ‘Read!’ The Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘I am not a reader.’ He said, Then he took hold of me and squeezed me until I could not bear it any more then he released me and said, ‘Read!’ I said, ‘I am not a reader.’ He took hold of me and squeezed me a second time until I could not bear it any more, then he released me and said, ‘Read!’ I said, ‘I am not a reader.’ He took hold of me and squeezed me a third time until I could not bear it any more, then he released me and said,

‘Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists). He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. Who has taught (the writing) by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not.’

[Qur’a ch al-‘Alaq 96:1-5]

Then the Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went back with his heart beating wildly, until he came to Khadeejah and said, ‘Cover me! Cover me!’ They covered him till his fear went away. Then he said to Khadeejah, ‘O Khadeejah, I fear for myself,’ and he told her what had happened. Khadeejah said, ‘Nay, be of good cheer, for by Allaah, Allaah will never disgrace you. You uphold the ties of kinship, speak truthfully, help the poor and destitute, serve your guests generously and assist those who are stricken by calamity.’

QuizTime(134) Who was first woman suckled by Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) after his mother ?

QuizTime(134) Who was  first woman  suckled by Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) after his mother ?

Ans:   “Thuyebah” the freed slave of Abu Lahab.

The first woman who suckled him after his mother was Thuyebah, the freed slave of Abu Lahab, with her son, Masrouh. She had suckled Hamzah Ibn ‘Abdul-Muttalib before, and later Abu Salamah Ibn ‘Abd Al-Asad Al-Makhzumi.

Narrated Um Habiba: (daughter of Abu Sufyan) I said, O Allah's Apostle! Marry my sister. the daughter of Abu Sufyan. The Prophet said, Do you like that? I replied, Yes, for even now I am not your only wife and I like that my sister should share the good with me. The Prophet said, But that is not lawful for me. I said, We have heard that you want to marry the daughter of Abu Salama. He said, (You mean) the daughter of Um Salama? I said, Yes. He said, Even if she were not my step-daughter, she would be unlawful for me to marry as she is my foster niece. I and Abu Salama were suckled by Thuwaiba. So you should not present to me your daughters or your sisters (in marriage). Narrated 'Urwa:Thuwaiba was the freed slave girl of Abu Lahb whom he had manumitted, and then she suckled the Prophet. When Abu Lahb died, one of his relatives saw him in a dream in a very bad state and asked him, What have you encountered? Abu Lahb said, I have not found any rest since I left you, except that I have been given water to drink in this (the space between his thumb and other fingers) and that is because of my manumitting Thuwaiba.

[Bukhari Hadith 5101]

It was the general custom of the Arabs living in towns to send their children away to bedouin wet nurses so that they might grow up in the free and healthy surroundings of the desert whereby they would develop a robust frame and acquire the pure speech and manners of the bedouins, who were noted both for purity of their language and for being free from those vices which usually develop in sedentary societies.

The Prophet (pbuh) was later entrusted to Haleemah bint Abi Dhuaib from Bani Sa‘d Ibn Bakr. Her husband was Al-Harith Ibn ‘Abdul ‘Uzza called Abi Kabshah, from the same tribe.

Muhammad (pbuh)  had several foster brothers and sisters, ‘Abdullah Ibn Al-Harith, Aneesah bint Al-Harith, Hudhafah or Judhamah bint Al-Harith (known as Ash-Shayma’), and she used to nurse the Prophet (pbuh)  and Abu Sufyan Ibn Al-Harith Ibn ‘Abdul-Muttalib, the Prophet’s cousin. Hamzah Ibn ‘Abdul-Muttalib, the Prophet’s uncle, was suckled by the same two wet nurses, Thuyeba and Haleemah As-Sa‘diyah, who suckled the Prophet (pbuh).

QuizTime (133): What are the four (specially) complaints Umar(r.a) received by people against the Governor of "Hims" & who was He ?

QuizTime (133): What are the four (specially) complaints Umar(r.a) received by people against the Governor of "Hims" & who was He ?

Ans:  Sa'eed Ibn 'Aamir Al-Jumahi(R.a).

'Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (r.a) went to Syria to inspect for himself the living conditions of the people. He went to Hims, which was nicknamed "Little Kufah," because its inhabitants, like those of  the original Kufah, were always complaining about their officials and their governors. When he arrived, the citizens came out to pay their respects to him, at which time he asked them whether they like their new governor.

They complained bitterly about a number of things that Sa'eed did, four things in particular. 'Uamar (r.a)  himself narrated: "So I had them confront him, and prayed to Allah that I would not be disappointed in him, for I had great trust in him. I asked them, 'what complaint do you have about your governor?' they answered, 'He does not come and attend to our affairs until late in the morning.' "I asked: 'What have you to say about that, Sa'eed?' he was silent for a moment before answering: 'I never wanted to speak about this, but here it seems that I must. My wife does not have a servant to help her with the family, so I get up early every morning, knead the dough for them, wait a while for it to rise, and bake the bread for them. Then I make my ablutions and go out to the people.'

"So, I asked them what other complaints they had about him, and they said he was never available to be seen at night. I said: 'What have you to say about that, Sa'eed?' he answered: 'I did not wish to make this public either, but I have made daytime for their affairs and the night to spend in worship of Allah".

"I asked what other complaints they had, and they said: 'One day every month, he does not come out to us at all.' I asked Sa'eed the reason for this and he said: 'Commander of the Faithful, I have no servant, and no clothing save that which I am wearing. I wash it by hand once a month, and it takes it a whole day to dry so that I can put it on and go out again.'  When I asked what else they complained of, they said that from time to time he appeared to faint and lose consciousness of his surroundings. When I asked Sa'eed the reason for this he said: 'I witnessed the execution of Khubayb Ibn 'Adiyy (r.a)  when I was still a pagan, and saw how the people of Quraysh cut him to pieces, asking if he wished that Muhammad (r.a)   was in his place. I heard him say he would never wish for himself to be safe and secure with his family, and Muhammad (r.a)  even be pricked by a thorn because of it. Every time I remember that day, and how I did not come forth to aid him, I fear that Allah will never forgive me, and I do faint.'

QuizTime(132): What was the age of Nabi Muhammad(Pbuh)when Allah appointed him as His messenger?

QuizTime(132): What was the age of Nabi Muhammad(Pbuh)when Allah appointed him as His messenger?

Ans: At the Age of 40.

Imam Mmad stated that Muhammad h. Ahij 'Adi related to him, from Dawiid b. Aha Hind, from 'Amir al-Sha'bi, that the Messenger of God (SAAS) received his mission when he was 40 years old. The angel Israfil was entrusted with his prophet-hood for three years, during which he would teach him words and facts; the Qur'an was not revealed then. After those three years Gabriel was entrusted with his prophethood and the Qur'au was revealed through his voice over a 20-year period, 10 in Mecca and 10 in Medina. The Prophet (SAAS) died when he was 63 years old.

This chain of authorities back to al-Sha'bi is a correct one. It establishes that Israfil was entrusted with him for a 3-year period after his age of 40, and that Gabriel came thereafter.

QuizTime(131): What was the name of Madinah before Nabi Muhammad(pbuh) migrated from Makkah to Madinah?

QuizTime(131): What was the name of Madinah before Nabi Muhammad(pbuh) migrated from Makkah to Madinah?

Ans: Yathrib

This is the city of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam. Prior to the Hijrah (migration), it was known as Yathrib, but the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, changed its name to Madeenah. Moreover, he, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, enjoined the Muslims not to call it Yathrib again. The Muslims named it Al-Madeenah AlMunawwarah (The Enlightened City), in order to distinguish it from other cities.

The word يثرب mentioned in Quran. Quranic Verses about Yathrib.

And when a faction of them said, “O people of Yathrib, there is no stability for you [here], so return [home].” And a party of them asked permission of the Prophet, saying, “Indeed, our houses are unprotected,” while they were not exposed. They did not intend except to flee.[Al-Qur'an ch 33 Verse 13]

Never Call it(Madeenah) as Yathrib:

With regard to it being makrooh to call Al-Madeenah Yathrib, it is narrated by al-Bukhaari (1871) and Muslim (1382) that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “They say Yathrib, but it is al-Madeenah.”

Al-Haafiz said in al-Fath: The words “They say Yathrib, but it is al-Madeenah” refer to the fact that some of the hypocrites were calling it Yathrib, but the name that suits it is Al-Madeenah. Some of the scholars understood from this that it is makrooh to call al-Madeenah Yathrib, and they said: What is mentioned in the Qur’aan is only quoting what some of the non-believers said.

Hence ‘Eesa ibn Dinar, one of the Maalikis, said: Whoever calls al-Madeenah Yathrib, it is recorded as a sin for him. The reason why it is makrooh is that the name Yathrib comes from tathreeb which means rebuke and blame, or from tharb which means corruption, both of which are repugnant meanings. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) liked good names, and he disliked repugnant names. End quote.

QuizTime(130) Which Qur’an verse revealed when there was dispute between Sahabi and Jew over a land and Jew ready to take false oath ?

QuizTime(130) Which Qur’an verse revealed when there was dispute between Sahabi and Jew over a land and Jew ready to take false oath ?

Ans:  Surah Al-Imran Ch 3 Verse 77.

“As for those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter: Nor will Allah (Deign to) speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He cleans them (of sin): They shall have a grievous penalty.”[Al-Qur’an ch 3 verse 77]

Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: The Messenger of Allah صلیاللہعلیہوسلم said: He who swears an oath in which he tells a lie to take the property of a Muslim by unfair means, will meet Allah while He is angry with him. Al-Ashath said: I swear by Allah, he said this about me. There was some land between me and a Jew, but he denied it to me; so I presented him to the Prophet صلیاللہعلیہوسلم. The Prophet صلیاللہعلیہوسلم asked me: Have you any evidence? I replied: No. He said to the Jew: Take an oath. I said: Messenger of Allah, now he will take an oath and take my property. So Allah, the Exalted, revealed the verse, As for those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price, they shall have no portion in the hereafter. Dawood#3243

“Al-Ash`ath said, "By Allah! This verse was revealed concerning me. I owned some land with a Jewish man who denied my right, and I complained against him to the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet asked me, `Do you have evidence' I said, `I don't have evidence.' He said to the Jew, `Take an oath then.' I said, `O Allah's Messenger! He will take a (false) oath immediately, and I will lose my property.' Allah revealed the verse,  “(Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths...)''

QuizTime (129): Did Muhammed(pbuh) saw Allah during Isra’ wal Mi’raaj ?

QuizTime (129): Did Muhammed(pbuh) saw Allah during Isra’ wal Mi’raaj ?

Ans: “No”. Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) Didn’t saw Allah.

There are many people has a misconception that Prophet (pbuh) saw Allah during Mi’raaj. Details follow below.

Praise be to Allah:

On the night of Me`raj, the prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) did not see Allah s.w.t via his bare eyes as Abu dharr ghaffari radhiallahu `anhu narrates :

I asked the Messenger of allah sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam : “ Have you seen your Lord?” The prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) replied : “He is light, how can I see him? “

 [Ref: Saheeh Muslim 1/99,178]

Imaam ibn Hibban (352 AH) explained the words used by the messenger of allah (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) “ raaytu noor” (I saw light) as follows :

This means that the messenger of allah (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) did not see his Rabb, rather from among the noor of the creations (angels ) he saw a bright light

[Ref: Saheeh ibn Hibban , under the hadeeth 58]

(1.2) Sayyedana `Aisha radhiallahu `anha narrates :

“ Whoever says that Muhammad saw his lord is a liar”

 [Ref: Saheeh Bukhaari 2/720, Hadeeth 4855 ;  Saheeh Muslim 1/98, 177]

(1.3) Ibn `Abbas radhiallahu anhu said :

“ Verily Nabi sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam has seen his Lord”

[Ref: Sunan at-tirmdhi (3280); Hasan.  Narrated in as-sunnah of Ibn abi `Aasim (1/191); Tafseer at-tabari (27/52); Kitaab at-tawheed li Ibn Khuzayma (1/490) with a good chain of narration]

About this statement of Ibn `Abbas radhiallahu `anhu, Ibn taymiyyah says :

This does not contradict the truth (that the prophet did not see his Lord with his eyes) because he (Ibn abbas) did not say that Muhammad (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam)saw Allah with the eyes on his face/face

[Ref: Ijtima' al-juyush li Ibn Qayyim ( page 48)]

Ibn al-Qayyim said also: "'Uthmaan ibn Sa'eed al-Daarimi said in his book al-Ru'yah that there was consensus among the Sahaabah that he [the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] did not see his Lord on the night of the Mi'raaj. Some of them excluded Ibn 'Abbaas and said that he was not one of those who said that. Our Shaykh says that this does not go against the facts, for Ibn 'Abbaas did not say that he saw Him with the eyes in his head, and Ahmad relied upon this in one of the two reports narrated from him, where he says that he saw Him but he did not say that that was with the eyes in his head. The wording used by Ahmad is the same as that used by Ibn 'Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both). What indicates that what our Shaykh said about the meaning of the hadeeth of Abu Dharr is correct is the fact that in another hadeeth he said that His veil is Light.  And Allaah knows best what the Light is that is mentioned in the hadeeth of Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him) where it says, 'I saw Light.'"

QuizTime (128): Does the Qur’an say that the Earth is flat?

QuizTime (128): Does the Qur’an say that the Earth is flat?

Ans: No.  But Qur’an said Shape of the earth Geo spherical.

Details follow below.

 1.    Earth made as a carpet

The question refers to a verse from the Qur’an in Surah Nuh:

"And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out)."

[Al-Qur’an 71:19]

But the sentence in the above verse is not complete. It continues in the next verse, explaining the previous verse. It says:

"That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads."

[Al-Qur’an 71:20]

A similar message is repeated in Surah TaHa:

"He Who has made for you the earth like a carpet spread out; has enabled you to go about therein by roads (and channels)...."

[Al-Qur’an 20:53]

The surface of the earth i.e. earth’s crust is less than 30 miles in thickness and is very thin as compared to the radius of the earth which is about 3750 miles. The deeper layers of the earth are very hot, fluid and hostile to any form of life. The earth’s crust is a solidified shell on which we can live. The Qur’an rightly refers to it like a carpet spread out, so that we can travel along its roads and paths.

2.    Carpet can also be spread on other than an absolute flat surface

Not a single verse of the Qur’an says that the earth is flat. The Qur’an only compares the earth’s crust with a carpet. Some people seem to think that carpet can only be put on an absolute flat surface. It is possible to spread a carpet on a large sphere such as the earth. It can easily be demonstrated by taking a huge model of the earth’s globe covering it with a carpet.

Carpet is generally put on a surface, which is not very comfortable to walk on. The Qur’an describes the earth crust as a carpet, without which human beings would not be able to survive because of the hot, fluid and hostile environment beneath it. The Qur’an is thus not only logical, it is mentioning a scientific fact that was discovered by geologists centuries later.

3.    Earth has been spread out

Similarly, the Qur’an says in several verses that the earth has been spread out.

"And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: how excellently We do spread out!"

[Al-Qur’an 51:48]

Similarly the Qur’an also mentions in several other verses that the earth is an expanse:

"Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse"

"And the mountains as pegs?"

[Al-Qur’an 78:6-7]

None of these verses of the Qur’an contain even the slightest implication that the earth is flat. It only indicates that the earth is spacious and the reason for this spaciousness of the earth is mentioned. The Glorious Qur’an says:

"O My servants who believe! truly. spacious is My Earth: therefore serve ye Me –(And Me alone)!" [Al-Qur’an 29:56]

Therefore none can give the excuse, that he could not do good and was forced to do evil because of the surroundings and circumstances.

4.     Earth is geospherical in shape

The Qur’an mentions the actual shape of the earth in the following verse:

"And we have made the earth egg shaped".

[Al-Qur’an 79:30]

The Arabic word Dahaha means egg shaped. It also means an expanse. Dahaha is derived from Duhiya which specifically refers to the egg of an ostrich which is geospherical in shape, exactly like the shape of the earth.

Thus the Qur’an and modern established science are in perfect harmon

QuizTime(127): Who are the masters of the youth of Paradise?

QuizTime(127): Who are the masters of the youth of Paradise?

Ans: ''Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn are the masters of the youth of Paradise.” May Allah please with them.  Ameen.

Hadith reported by Ahmad, At-Tirmithi, Ibn Maajah and An-Nasaa’i, it was narrated by Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri  may  Allaah  be  pleased  with  him who said: “The Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) said: ''Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn are the masters of the youth of Paradise.” Shaykh Al-Albaani  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  him classified it as Saheeh [sound].

The meaning of this Hadeeth has been clarified by many statements which were summarized by Al-Mubaarak Poori  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  him who said: “It means they are the best among those who died as young in the Cause of Allaah from the people of Paradise. He did not mean that they will die at the age of youth as they died in their middle age [elderly], but what is meant is the chivalry of the youth, in the same way that we call someone who is old ‘a young man’ referring to his strength and chivalry. Or that he meant that they are the masters of the people of Paradise with the exception of the Prophets and the rightly guided Caliphs, because all the people of Paradise are of the same age, which is young age [33 years old], and there are no elderly or middle aged people amongst them."

Moreover, At-Teebi  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  him said: “It could mean that they are now the masters of the youth who are among the people of Paradise from among the youth of this (their) era.”

QuizTime(126) Which Qur'an verse revealed when Sahaba got disputed over watering their garden ?

QuizTime(126) Which Qur'an verse revealed when Sahaba got disputed over watering their garden ?

Ans :  Qur’an ch 4 Verse 65.

“But no! By your Lord, they will never be ˹true˺ believers until they accept you ˹O Prophet˺ as the judge in their disputes, and find no resistance within themselves against your decision and submit wholeheartedly.”

[Al-Qur’an ch 4 Verse 65]

Urwa b. Zubair reported that 'Abdullah b. Zubair had narrated to him that a person from the Ansar disputed with Zubair in the presence of Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلیاللہعلیہوسلم ‌ ) in regard to the watering places of Harra from which they watered the date-palms. The Ansari said: Let the water flow, but he (Zubair) refused to do this and the dispute was brought to Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلیاللہعلیہوسلم ‌ ) and he said to Zubair: Zubair, water (your date-palms), then let the water flow to your neighbor. The Ansari was enraged and said: Allah's Messenger, (you have given this decision) for he is the son of your father's sister. The face of Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلیاللہعلیہوسلم ‌ ) underwent a change, and then said: Zubair, water (your date-palms), then hold it until it rises up to the walls. Zubair said: I think, by Allah, that this verse: Nay, by the Lord, they will not (really) (believe) until they make thee a judge of what is in dispute among them, and find in this no dislike of what thou decidest and submit with full submission (iv. 65). Sahih muslim#5112(INT#2357)

Allah swears by His Glorious, Most Honorable Self, that no one shall attain faith until he refers to the Messenger for judgment in all matters. Thereafter, whatever the Messenger commands, is the plain truth that must be submitted to inwardly and outwardly. they adhere to your judgment, and thus do not feel any hesitation over your decision, and they submit to it inwardly and outwardly. They submit to the Prophet's decision with total submission without any rejection, denial or dispute.

For more details:

Two men took their dispute to the Prophet one who rejected prophet decision and subsequently they went to Umar(r.a) and He killed the one who rejected prophet(pbuh) decision.

QuizTime(125) Who was that Sahabi on his deathbed asked his son to Shroud him dress of badr as He wanted to Meet Allah in it ?

QuizTime(125) Who was that  Sahabi on his deathbed asked his son to Shroud him dress of badr as He wanted to Meet Allah in it ?

Ans:  Sa'ad Ibn Abi Waqqaas(R.a)

“He lived until he was almost 80 years old. He was blessed with much influence and wealth but as the time of death approached in the year 54 AH, he asked his son to open a box in which he had kept a coarse woolen shirt (Jubbah) and said:

“Shroud me in this, for in this (Jubbah) I met the polytheists on the day of Badr and in it I desire to meet Allah the Almighty.”

Sa'ad(r.a) distinguished himself in many encounters that took place during the life of the Prophet and after. Sa'ad is known as the first Companion to have shot an arrow in the defense of Islam. During the Battle of Badr, Sa'ad fought alongside his brother ‘Umayr . ‘Umayr was a mere lad in his early teens, and had begged to be allowed to accompany the Muslim army. Sa'ad returned alone to Al-Madeenah, for `Umayr was one among the fourteen Muslim martyrs who fell that day.

At the Battle of Uhud, Sa'ad was especially chosen as one of the best archers along with Zayd and Sa’ib .

Sa'ad was one of the companions of the Prophet who was blessed with great wealth. Just as he was known for his bravery, so he was known for his generosity. Sa'ad is mainly renowned as the commander-in-chief of the strong Muslim army which 'Umar dispatched to confront the. Persians at Qadisiyah. 'Umar wanted nothing less than an end to Sasanian power which for centuries had dominated the region.

Just how ferocious the battle was, could be imagined when it is known that some 30,000 persons on both sides fell in the course of four days' fighting. In one day alone, some 2000 Muslims and about 10,000 Persians lost their lives.

The Battle of Qadisiyah is one of the major decisive battles of world history. It sealed the fate of the Sasanian Empire, just as the Battle of Yarmook had sealed the fate of the Byzantine Empire in the West. Two years after Qadisiyah, Sa'ad went on to take the Sasanian capital.

Quiz time (124): For how long the "Black stone" was absent from its place in the Ka’bah?

Quiz time (124): For how long the "Black stone" was absent from its place in the Ka’bah?

Ans: 22 years.

Qaraamitah stealing the Black Stone and keeping it with them for a long time, this is true. Ibn Katheer said, concerning the events of 278 AH:

In this year the Qaraamitah – who are a heretical sect that follows Persian philosophy and believes that Zaradasht and Mazdak, who used to permit forbidden things, are prophets – started their trouble.

As well as that, they blindly follow everyone who speaks falsehood. The group they managed to corrupt the most were the Raafidis because they are the least wise of people. They are also called Ismaa’eelis (Ismailis) because they are named after Ismaa’eel al-A’raj ibn Ja’far al-Saadiq.

They are also called al-Qaraamitah. It was said that they are named after Qarmat ibn al-Ash’ath al-Baqqaar; and it was said that in the beginning their leader used to tell them to pray fifty times a day, so as to distract them from what he was really up to.

What is meant is that this group became active in this year, then things got worse and reached alarming proportions – as we shall see – when they entered al-Masjid al-Haraam and shed the blood of the pilgrims inside the Mosque around the Ka’bah, and they broke the Black Stone and removed it from its position, and took it with them to their homeland in 317 AH, and it stayed with them until 339 AH, so it was absent from its place in the Ka’bah for 22 years. To Allaah we belong and verily unto Him is our return.

QuizTime (123): "Which Sahabi buy the half of the "well" & what is name of that "well”?

QuizTime (123): "Which Sahabi buy the half of the "well" & what is name of that "well”?

Ans: Uthman bin 'Affan (R.a) & Well name “Rumah”.

The Muslims in Medina were poor as they had left their worldly possessions in Mecca. Much depended on the Ansar (dwellers of Medina) to adopt a Muhajireen (emigrants from Mecca) to support them in maintaining their livelihood and for survival. A Jewish trader had taken advantage of the need for the city dwellers’ survival when he sold water (a precious commodity indeed) at a very high price.

Uthman took the initiative to relieve them of such high expenses. He offered to buy the well at Rawmah from the Jew but was only allowed to purchase half of it. Uthman then told the Muslims to purchase enough water for two days each time it was his turn to sell water, thereby avoiding purchase of water on the second day when it was the Jew’s turn to use the well.

The Jew was then unable to get any buyers and eventually had to sell his share to Uthman. The well then overflowed with its sweet water and provided the people of Medina with water at no price or account.

“At-Tirmidhy reported in his Sunan from the Hadith of Thumamah ibn Hazn Al Qushayry who said:  I was present in the house when `Uthman approached them and said: Bring me your two friends who stirred you against me.

He said: They were brought to him as if they were two camels or two donkeys. He said: `Uthman approached them and said:

I ask you by the name of Allah and Islam, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to Medina while there was no fresh water therein but Rumah Well? Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Who would buy the Rumah Well and give water to Muslims for a better well in Paradise? Thereupon, I bought it from my money, but today you prevent me from drinking therefrom until I drink from sea water? …”

[Tirmidhi Hadith 3071]

“I remind you by Allah. Do you know that no one drank from the well of Rumah but have to pay for it, then I bought it and made it for the rich, the poor, and the wayfarer?' They said: 'O Allah! Yes!'"[ Tirimidhi Hadith 3699]

Well done! All those who got it right. May Allah increase our knowledge and bless you all. Ameen Summa Ameen. JazakAllah khairan for taking part in today’s Quiz.
