QuizTime(103) who was that Sahabi formed a small group of soldiers of Muslims, who were escaped from Makkah?

Ans: Abu Baseer(R.a)

Immediately after the Al-Hudaybiyah Peace Treaty, Abu Baseer ‘Utbah bin Aseed, may Allah be pleased with him, managed to escape from the prisons of the polytheists in Makkah, fleeing for his religion. He was able to join the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and the Muslims in Madeenah.

It was very difficult for the Muslims to see their brother in Islam taken back to his prison in Makkah after he had managed to escape from the injustice of the Quraysh. However, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was keen on fulfilling promises and covenants, and these were not just written items.

Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, left with the two men and when they reached Thu’l-Hulayfah, he said to one of his companions, “Is your sword sharp, O son of Banu ‘Aamir?” The man replied in the affirmative and said, “Have a look at it if you like.” Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, drew the sword and killed him. The other man fled returning to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, saying, “Your companion killed mine.”

Soon after that, Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, came carrying an unsheathed sword and said, “O Messenger of Allah, you have fulfilled your covenant by giving me over to the people, and I protected my religion so as not to become an apostate.” The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Woe to his mother! What an excellent war kindler he would be, if only there had been others with him.” When Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, heard this, he understood that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, would return him to them again, so he set out until he reached the seashore. [Al-Bukhari]

The weak Muslims who were still in Makkah understood from the words of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, that Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, was in need of men. Therefore, they began escaping from Makkah to Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, at the seashore.

Abu Jandal bin Suhayl bin ‘Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, and others, escaped and joined Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, until they formed a strong group. Whenever they heard about a caravan of the Quraysh heading towards Ash-Shaam (greater Syria), they would attack it, kill the people in it and take their property.

Abu Baseer, may Allah be pleased with him, the chief and founder of the guerillas, could not return to Madeenah because the letter of the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, instructing him to do so reached him on his deathbed. He took his last breath where he was at Ath-Thaghr while his heart was longing for the Muslim community with the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, in Madeenah.
